Each baby is given hair, whether it's painted, hand-applied, rooted or a wig. First the original factory paint is completely removed. Next for painted hair I use a Burnt Umber coloring and carefully paint each little stroke onto the head until it looks natural and realistic.
For hand-applied hair, I use either mohair or viscose and using a strong adhesive,I apply very thin locks of hair, one at a time following the natural hair pattern of anewborn until the head is fully covered. Some scalp will be showing in various areas leaving the look very realistic and because of removing the original paint, the scalp will look more natural in color.

For rooting, I use a new technique called, "micro-rooting". This is when only a couple strands of hair are rooted at a time with a super-fine felting needle. This needle is so thin that it usually breaks during the process. Many needles and many hours go into rooting just one head, but it is worth it. This method gives the baby an incredibly realistic head of newborn hair. I only use quality mohair and will use premium imported mohair when requested.
For wigs, I almost always use a Kemper mohair wig. After placing the wig on the head, I trim, thin and style the hair to look as much like a newborn as possible.

When making older babies or toddlers, I may use a synthetic wig and give the child more hair.
